Evil Genius
I’m a sucker for games, of almost every kind. Board games, cards, chess and of course: Computer games.
The latest one I’ve been trying out, on top of Battle of Wesnoth that I’m still hooked to, is called Evil Genius. I get to play an evil madman who plots for world dominance! I build my own hideout and acquire henchmen, minions and commit acts of infamy to build up my notoriety rating. Of course the pesky forces of good are at large as the worlds nations get more and more angry because of my acts toward them, so they send their agents, infiltrators and troops after me.
The game is easy to play, and reminds me a lot of Dungeon Keeper, except here I don’t build up my lair, or secret hideout on a unspecified island, every time the scenario ends. Instead the hideout keeps growing as I finish off goals and tasks the game presents to me. That confused me, so I started the game over once to make a better layout for my hideout. And of course it’s built underground
I also get to set up traps for infiltrating agents, which is lot of fun, especially when building combo traps, like a wind machine that blows an agent into a gas trap. Too bad there are so few traps (1 trap that actually kills, the rest confuse or move an agent), but I’m hoping for a wider variety of traps once the game progresses.
So the game is basically lots of fun, especially the music which seems to be a potpurri of Bond movie music.
But it has some nagging drawbacks. Agents sometime infiltrate the base by digging themselves into my base, and even though I have security cams set up, and alarms linked to them, if the agents emerge in a room where there are no minions, noone rushes into that room to battle them. I have to direct my henchman (you get a henchman in the beginning, and as the game progresses you’re getting more of them) towards them instead. And that is a lot of manual work.
Also, when adjusting an equippment I’ve placed in an awkward position, I can’t move it to a new position that includes the position where it is currently standing. That is highly annoying! So I have to first move it to a new location and from there move it back to where I wanted it in the first place! But, ah well, the sounds and moves the minions make when interrogating a prisoner are worth the few glitches
So I give this game a 4 out of 5 as it seems to have a lot of potential! Especially when you get more and more notorious and evil.

Aha, it’s one you have to purchase and not a free on-line game. Good, that means I won’t try and pobably can avoid getting hooked.
