Random musings
I like my category ‘random musings’, it can be whatever I like it to be! Like right now, I’m musing a little about my current work.
As you’ve read in a previous post I got a job! I’m working as a system administrator, PC support technician and network technician at Kanal Lokal here in Linköping. Kanal Lokal is a local TV-channel that has offices in 4 different swedish cities: Linköping, Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö. There are around 200 people employed by the company, and I’m there to help out the single computer technician with all the aforementioned areas of work. So I’m doing some network configuration, configuring up a new mail- and www-server and helping out with peoples problems with their PCs. It’s quite fun, and most fun is that I’ve managed to keep a 8am to 5pm work schedule, and have kept my private life and work life almost totally separate. I don’t do private stuff when I’m at work, and I don’t do work related stuff when I’m at home. Works wonders for me!
Oh, did you know that Pluto is probably going to get back it’s planet status? According to a new draft about planets on the IAU website. They’re thinking about introducing a new class of planets: plutons. Three celestial bodies would be categorized as plutons, namely: Pluto, Eris and Ceres.
This is the best part of musing. Jumping from one topic to the next, in no particular order!
I”m also fed up with all the negative news we get from different channels, that creates the image that our society and planet is going to hell, rather rapidly. So I’ve tried looking up other sources of news. My favourite one today is http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/. Most of the sites I found had a christian spin to them, but this one seems very much free from it. It only reports good things, and after a while of reading it, I get a more balanced feeling on how our planet and societies really are today. Did you know that we today have probably the lowest amount of violence in our species total history? This according to A history of violence by MIT professor Steve Pinker. Or as he puts it:
Conventional history has long shown that, in many ways, we have been getting kinder and gentler.
I saw Die Hard 4.0 today too. I gave it a 4 out of 5. Lot’s of good action!
Oh yeah, the second pluton, Eris, is the “planet” formerly known as Xena, a planet far outside of Pluto’s orbit. And according to latest measurements it’s about 27% heavier than pluto too. It’s also got a little moon, Dysnomia, named after Eris daughter. Eris was the greek goddess of discord. Her daughter was the spirit of lawlesness. Fitting when you think that Lucy Lawless played Xena
Lots of talk, but somewhere in the middle it’s quite interesting (if I may say so myself, and I may!).
