Random musings

Wednesday 27th June 2007 (viewed 7682 times)

I like my category ‘random musings’, it can be whatever I like it to be! Like right now, I’m musing a little about my current work.

As you’ve read in a previous post I got a job! I’m working as a system administrator, PC support technician and network technician at Kanal Lokal here in Linköping. Kanal Lokal is a local TV-channel that has offices in 4 different swedish cities: Linköping, Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö. There are around 200 people employed by the company, and I’m there to help out the single computer technician with all the aforementioned areas of work. So I’m doing some network configuration, configuring up a new mail- and www-server and helping out with peoples problems with their PCs. It’s quite fun, and most fun is that I’ve managed to keep a 8am to 5pm work schedule, and have kept my private life and work life almost totally separate. I don’t do private stuff when I’m at work, and I don’t do work related stuff when I’m at home. Works wonders for me!

Oh, did you know that Pluto is probably going to get back it’s planet status? According to a new draft about planets on the IAU website. They’re thinking about introducing a new class of planets: plutons. Three celestial bodies would be categorized as plutons, namely: Pluto, Eris and Ceres.

This is the best part of musing. Jumping from one topic to the next, in no particular order!

I”m also fed up with all the negative news we get from different channels, that creates the image that our society and planet is going to hell, rather rapidly. So I’ve tried looking up other sources of news. My favourite one today is http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/. Most of the sites I found had a christian spin to them, but this one seems very much free from it. It only reports good things, and after a while of reading it, I get a more balanced feeling on how our planet and societies really are today. Did you know that we today have probably the lowest amount of violence in our species total history? This according to A history of violence by MIT professor Steve Pinker. Or as he puts it:

Conventional history has long shown that, in many ways, we have been getting kinder and gentler.

I saw Die Hard 4.0 today too. I gave it a 4 out of 5. Lot’s of good action!

ErisOh yeah, the second pluton, Eris, is the “planet” formerly known as Xena, a planet far outside of Pluto’s orbit. And according to latest measurements it’s about 27% heavier than pluto too. It’s also got a little moon, Dysnomia, named after Eris daughter. Eris was the greek goddess of discord. Her daughter was the spirit of lawlesness. Fitting when you think that Lucy Lawless played Xena )

Biiru waza

Here’s something original ) Lots of talk, but somewhere in the middle it’s quite interesting (if I may say so myself, and I may!).

This is recorded in Torsby in may this year, when I was uchi deshi at Lars-Göran Andersson-senseis dojo. Mark Larson from USA was there and had a seminar together with Lars-Göran, and one of his students, Matthew, taped it.

Biiru waza is japanese and translates to Beer Techniques (Carro or Martin, you have to help me with the translation if I got it wrong!). The art of taking and defending your beer, using aikido basics.

Someday I’ll register a good domain for Biiru waza and start the trend that will change the world!

I got a job!

WUHUU! *arms up in the air* I got a job! I got a job! I got a job! cheer cheer cheer I’ll be working as a computer technician at Kanal lokal, and I start tomorrow! Yay! Yay! Yay! Finally! I’ll have more money, but no vacation this summer, which is a bummer. But twice the money a month is quite well worth not having a proper vacation D

The work place seems cool. My new boss seems to be a very nice person too, which is definitively one of my major reasons to accept the work. She seems to embrace the philosophy that you should have fun at your work place, because then you’ll be more productive. A philosophy I fully endorse )

This means I will have to start going to bed earlier as I will be getting up at 6 am in the mornings, to be able to do my morning training. Each day I practice 30-60 minutes with aikido weapons. I also do 20 minutes of meditation, and 10-15 minutes of qigong. I have also started doing push ups and crunches. I started the crunches and push ups at 20 each day. Now I’m up at 54. I increase them with 2 each day, except for saturdays which are my designated resting days.
