Biiru waza

Here’s something original
Lots of talk, but somewhere in the middle it’s quite interesting (if I may say so myself, and I may!).
This is recorded in Torsby in may this year, when I was uchi deshi at Lars-Göran Andersson-senseis dojo. Mark Larson from USA was there and had a seminar together with Lars-Göran, and one of his students, Matthew, taped it.
Biiru waza is japanese and translates to Beer Techniques (Carro or Martin, you have to help me with the translation if I got it wrong!). The art of taking and defending your beer, using aikido basics.
Someday I’ll register a good domain for Biiru waza and start the trend that will change the world!

I have a less known talent: I down a bottle of beer in less than 3 seconds. Will that be related to Biiru waza like that “art-to-get-a-sword-out-of-its-sheet-as-fast-and-stylish-as-possible” is related to Aikido?

I thought timing was important in aikido, but he managed to take at least two mouthfuls from the bottle before you grab it!

I thought *I* was cool with my skill of beeing able to spread cold Bregott butter over a freshly baked slice of bread without breaking the bread.
But this!

Mari: Cheesus!!! Even I didn’t know about that one!
Jens: I know! I talked too much! For the next filming, I will be sure to talk a lot less, and demonstrate more! I’ve got more ideas. Actually, last year, I did techniques against two people holding beers
Fredri: Hehehe! Hidden talents beware I say! And your skill is still impressive! I’ve never been able to do that…

Btw, I think Fredrik uses a gourd or a birch bark horn to perform his party trick! Am I right, am I right

#1 Well, it most certainly wasn´t tears of fear, let me tell you that… We have undoubtedly seen worse movies but also better ones. Favoritescene from this nights event; “oh Im an innocent little boy, and a car is passing while we burn our dead cows, BETTER TAKE DOWN MY SCARF FROM WHICH I AM BREATHING AND LOOK AT THEM FOR NO REASON”
#2 Im meeting up with Mr Assmund on Friday. I´ll try and persuade him into the eating-thing, but we´ve been talking about “häva ett Happy Meal” for ages now and there seems to be no progress in that
#3 Will I be punished for using a swedish term in this guestbook?

Mari: I don’t think Fredrik even touches birch so much, so I think he’s just either warming the knife, or doing it really slowly. Probably some secret hand twist involved or so
Jens & Mari: I actually hunted for a preview thingie! None of them worked well enough though
Anna: #1 Hehe, told ya! Hahaha! A classic! People doing stoopid things, can make a movie a whole lot better! #2 Oh, good luck with it! Hopefully he’s starving on his student pay and has to come up with new ways of getting money
#3 Nope! No punishments for that. Unless you really are in a need for one? Then I might try to find a suitable one.

A colleague just asked my how come you could use the same bottle over and over again. Should you “häva” the beer while stealing it? That way you wouldn’t have to defend it later.

Edward, maybe the circular movement involved in “hävandet” (the heaving) of the beer can be transformed in some arcane aikido move?

Mari: I’m not that good at baking bread. I’ll give it a try. Got a good recipe from one of the nice old ladies in my convenience store
Edward: It’s because it’s a demonstration. Also, once you get proficient in Biiru waza it doesn’t matter how often they come and try to get it back. They end up empty handed and I end up getting a sip of the beer!
Mari: Aikido is all about circles, so it does fit rather snuggly into the aikido concepts included in Biiru waza!
