Men fortfarande bara hemma.
Enter Foxmarks!
Perfekt!
I like stand-up comedy and comedy in general. Me and some of my friends usually talk about the latest comedy shows or comedians we have seen (on the internet, not much comedy here in Linköping!). Some of my favourites are: Eddie Izzard, Pablo Fransisco, Dylan Moran and Victor Borge.
Today I found Steve Hughes. Here’s a video of him:
Here’s an excerpt from the video above, towards the end of the video:
Steve’s talking about the Heavy Metal subculture, to which he himself belongs, and how many men in that subculture are homophobic and he’s impersonating a heavy metallist
Heavy metallist: We don’t like’em Steve, we don’t like’em. Steve: Who mate? Heavy metallist: Porker’s mate. We don’t like’em. Steve: Why not mate? Heavy metallist: They’re not real men, mate. They’re not tough. Steve: They’re not tough? They fuck men! That’s hardly gay!
The big day is coming up! The day for the Oscar gala! 25th of february it will be broadcasted live from Hollywood. I’m not yet sure if any of the major swedish TV-networks will be broadcasting the show, but I sure hope so! Me and a couple of friends try to stay up at the oscars and watch it live Best way to watch it!
This year I decided to try and watch most of the nominated movies, so I started to hunt them down on the internet. Easier said than done. Some of them I still can’t find. Luckily I stumbled to this site today: www.oscartorrents.com, a sister site to The Pirate Bay. Unfortunately, some of the movies are still missing there too…
Anyway, they don’t list a little masterpiece that has been nominated for best animated short film, one that I happened to find on youtube today. Maestro. It’s brilliant! And here it is, for your entertainment
If you’re using Firefox you know there’s a Search Bar, by default located to the right of your URL-window, and that there are a number of search engines to choose from.
Well, when I was visiting my friend David I noticed he used the little Search Bar to search for music at AllMusic. I was impressed by this and realised that the list of search engines in the Search Bar must be customizable!
Lo and behold, it is! I might be the last person on earth to discover this, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying the ‘New’ feature! I just clicked the arrow next to the Google G and chose ‘Manage Search Engines…‘!
I quickly removed every search engine except Google. Then I used the nifty little function in the Search Bar to search for more search engines.
In ‘Manage Search Engines…’ there’s a link that says ‘Get more search engines…‘. Here I found Search Bar add-ons for IMDb and WikiPedia, which I quickly included. It’s really easy, just click and it’s installed!
I then realised that I wanted to use the Search Bar to search the Swedish-English dictionary called Lexin at Språkrådet. And also search for English-Swedish translations.
There’s a site called MyCroft with many Search Bar add-ons, and they have a bunch of add-ons for the dictionaries at Språkrådets website, but the ones I found there were broken.
If you wish to use them, just open your Search Bar and choose “Add Svenskt-Engelskt lexikon” and/or “Add Engelskt-Svenskt lexikon“, while visiting my site. I made them accessible by adding some header-lines to my site
They’re made by people in Finland. I promise, you will see Father Christmas in a totally new light once you’ve seen these movies!
The first really good finnish home made movie I saw was Star Wreck - In the Pirkinning, a wonderful full length movie, which features Star Trek meeting Babylon 5! With comments like “Syö valopalloa”, “Taktisesta puuttuu edelleen tuoli!”, it quickly made a place for itself in my heart.
If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend to download it from their official site. It’s also totally free to download, and if you wish to support their good work, you can also buy it on DVD, which I’m strongly considering. It also has astounding special effects, and if you understand finnish, it’s even better And if you don’t, no need to worry, it’s subtitled.
So, I’ve finally succumbed to letting in ads on my blog via Google AdSense. I sent in my application today, will probably receive information in a couple of days, and after that I’ll have to redesign things to fit in the ads.
There are quite a lot of rules about what you can and cannot do with the ads. But they all make sense, since they’re about preventing people creating bogus sites or scripts that automatically click the ads.
There’s one that I found a bit annoying though and it’s that in order to get Google AdSense, you have to agree not to click on the ads on your own pages. And since Google AdSense puts up ads for things that relate to what I write on my site, I’ll probably see a lot of ads that are of interest to me! Oh well, I’ll just have to copy and paste the link address… The pain of manual labour!
The other thing I’ve been pondering is to register a .com/.se/.net/.org address for my blog. I made a search for Mind Matters on Google and discovered that there are many organisations using that name! Blast! I wish for my blog to be easily found, which means I’ll be considering changing the name of it. Do you have any good suggestions?
I’m wishing for my blog to turn into a place for tips of how to use your mind and body and also to dwelve into the depths of modern mind and body sciences. I want the blog name to relate to that, and at the same time be used as a domain. Here are some random brainstorm spawns:
It’s the truth. The best home made lightsaber duel I’ve ever seen! A bit long perhaps, but well worth the time to look all the way to the end! The special effect are impressive! I loved it! It get’s my vote
Yes, it’s an online turn-based adventure game! With campaign and multiuser modes. And it’s free! Strangely addictive. Maybe because I get hooked for any game that gives me some mental stimulus for a while. When I know a game through and through and there is no plot to keep my interest up, I rapidly lose my interest in it.
I will make a prediction about this game: I will lose interest in it after a while! There. I’m a bonafide futureteller now! But for now, it has me hooked. Since the campaigns are quite extensive, and I’m a very poor strategic, it will take me a while before I get bored with it. Perhaps I will even learn a little about strategics that will come in handy in other areas of my life?
I’ve got to admit that since I stopped working with computers it has become more fun to play around with them on my spare time. And since I’m currently unemployed I got lots of spare time!
Surfing the net and getting my bloglines aggregator working has been a real productivity booster when it comes to this area of my life. Some of the things I’ve found I want to share with you. Especially these two pages detailing how to tweak your Firefox to become less memory consuming and having some tips about good plugins to use.
Both pages have descriptions and recommendations for plugins and some tweaking of Firefox. I found a couple of plugins that I myself now use. Wonder how I could live without them!
Tab Mix Plus - An excellent plugin to manage your tabs better! You get an X button for each tab, unread tabs marked in cursive red, every tabs progress in loading it’s content marked like in the Fission-plugin and more.
Fission - Shows a progressbar in your adressbar for how long it will take the page to load. Invaluable for me, who is a bit impatient of nature
PDF Download - Lets you choose what to do with PDF documents! I’ve been looking for this little baby for a long time. I don’t like my PDF documents to open in a Firefox window.
The best for the last - Reveal - A little plugin that lets you view the content of your tabs in cute little miniwindows just by pressing F2, oh and some more, but that functionality in it self was worth the download!
And my favourite tweaking of Firefox and it’s memory usage:
Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
In the box that pops up enter config.trim_on_minimize. Press Enter.
Now select True and then press Enter.
Restart Firefox.
When I minimize Firefox it drops down to 10 MB of used memory! Mmmm! *cuddles with the tweak*
